Why The Term Temperamental Artist?

Why The Term Temperamental Artist?

 by Teresa Sullivan, Agent

Everyone has heard the term temperamental artist. This assumes that there is something wrong with the artist in the way they deal with others. Art is a very personal and unique talent and the artists themselves do not see things the way that the masses do. An artist is not just for those who paint. They can be sculptors, photographers, writers, poets, musicians, architects, interior designers or even inventors. Artists are big on truth and not their truth but universal truth. They are interested in making a stand for causes and are not afraid of public ridicule.

There once was a playwright by the name of Bill. He was not considered seriously by the people who worked with him, or the people who viewed his plays. At the time, women were not legally able to become actors on stage. He decided to write a play about a truth about life and took a chance in including a woman in the play. The play was about two people who loved each other so much that they were willing to die for each other and that is the way it ended. The audience was shocked and the actors were ready for impending public scorn. Then it was revealed that a woman acted in the play which could result in imprisonment. The Queen of England was so impressed with Bill, that she invited him to discuss the depth of what his play was about. He was then respected throughout the land. That man who stood up for womens rights was William Shakespeare.

Artists who do not make a stand for some dimension in life, are not ridiculed or publicly scorned or ridiculed, are really not artists. Many times people who say about an artist's work "I would not have done it that way" are part of the masses.  The next time you say this about an artist, check the artist out and see what the people who have collected his / her artwork say about it. If they are royalty, the aristocracy, heads of state or religious leaders, maybe you should think twice. Paul Gaugin challenged the Catholic Church for judging natives in the South Pacific for their hedonist ways. Mark Twain's work challenged society in showing youth not influenced to be a racist by associating with a black man known in his writings as Jim.  True artists enjoy helping others artists develop their artwork.  It is their way in giving back. Richard Avedon gave to Marc Gagnon by mentoring him in the 80s. You could say that America had an artist as President, Thomas Jefferson.

The term a Termperamental Artist is attributed to an occasional outburst resulting from narrow thinking. The artist though is not moved to change. They are driven to continue. It is this that I support Monsieur Gagnon, Artist and Friend.  A friend of Gagnon's by the name of Jacques Wiesel is a writer and many would consider him at times as temperamental. He is passionate about life and does so through his writings.

Below is a collage done by Gagnon and the piece is about one of the greatest artists of all time, Davinci. Also below is a painting of Jacques Wiesel and Marc Gagnon painted by Carol Morris.

King of Spain Acknowleges Artist Gagnon

King of Spain Acknowleges Artist Gagnon
by Agent Teresa Sullivan

King Juan Carlos I of Spain has recently approved Marc Gagnon's art collage Spain, The Gateway of the America's. Gagnon presented a dosier as well as a sample art piece and a presentation letter which was written in Spanish. The letter praises the people of Spain for the vision and bravery in charting the new world. The King of Spain graciously accepted the piece to be hung in the Palacio de la Zarzuela. The King of Spain has approved Gagnon's works in the past which include THE DISCOVERY COLLAGE.  The piece was featured on the cover of Applause Magazine.  Gagnon first was inspired to do these collages on a visit to the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was accompanied by friends Elizabeth Riggs and Jeffrey Riggs.  Below are the letters both written by Gagnon and the one written by the King's people as well as the actual Columbus collage. The envelope is also included in this blog.  Marc Gagnon's purpose for his artwork is to identify those that are much greater than himself and to highlight people's lives. Gagnon's artwork is in over 110 collections.

Jacques Wiesel as Essayist

Jacques Wiesel as Essayist

Jacques Wiesel, Author, Motivational Speaker and Coach has a column in the Our Town News in Coral Springs. The articles range from a variety of topics and much of the subject matter is reflected in his four published books. His books are Options from Within, How to Survive and Thrive in a Concrete Jungle, Bloom Where You're Planted, and 9 Knockdowns and 5 Miracles (Autobiography). Recently, Carol Morris did a painting of Jacques Wiesel and made him into a modern day Benjamin Franklin. Jacques is a strong willed individual with strong voiced opinions. Most great writers in the past demonstrated these traits. Jacques recently spoke at a Rotary Club in Coral Springs and briefly covered all four books. Jacques also has a series of tapes for sale.  Jacques background for training is the sales industry which he was number 1 in four international companies.

New England Roads

New England Roads

I was born in Nashua, NH and spent most of my life living both on Broad Street on the north end of Nashua as well as on Orchard Avenue on the south end of Nashua. I traveled throughout all six States of New England. I frequently traveled on weekends in all four seasons. I have stayed at such inns and hotels as Wentworth by the Sea in Newcastle, NH, Breton Woods in the White Mountains in NH, The Equinox Inn in Manchester Center, VT, the Emerson Inn in Rockport, MA, Hogge Penney Inn at Rutland, VT by Killington Mountain, and a variety of other places in Mystic Seaport, Newport RI, upper State of Maine in Acadia, as well as in Stamford, CT.

I lived in New England up until 1997 and frequently visit NH some six times a year. The people are somewhat different from Florida. They are a strong sense of community and do not forget people they grow up with. There is actually an enormous amount of activities to do in New England all four seasons of the year.

The attached site will give you an idea of the trips I use to take.

Here are a couple of pictures that you will find on the site.

Breakfast Club Philosophy

Breakfast Club Philosophy

The Breakfast Club International is a networking group which was created by Steven Wain and Marc Gagnon. There are two groups in Broward County which is aimed at directing business to its members which are local business people. The philosophy of the group is much different than other networking groups as BNI, NPA, Le Tip, PNA and other groups. The philosophy is catching on and there appears to be groups forming in New Hampshire and Massachusetts through the Innovation Forum groups which is a community based group, comprised of 13 chapters.

Here is the philosphy:

There are many such groups as PNA, BNI, NPI, Le Tip and Tri County and all of them essentially have the same philosophy as each other, What’s In It for Me.  The problem of this philosophy is that everyone is waiting for a referral for themselves which results in the same, a failed group.
The Breakfast Club analogy of working together is like a Fleet of Fishing Ships. There is a famous statue in Gloucester, Massachusetts which is a Memorial Statue of all fishermen that have died on the open seas. Instead of They That Go down with Their Ships; ours is THEY THAT DON’T GO DOWN WITH THEIR SHIPS.

The Breakfast Club is an assemblage of professional members aimed at business and personal improvement and to be a catalyst in growing each other's business.
The Breakfast Club is like a group of Fishing Boat Captains.
The Breakfast Club is looking for Captains (essentially leaders) but at the same time developing relationships and working together by investing in each other as a Fleet of Fishing Boats.  In essence, we all fish in the same waters and we go out at the same time to reel in the fish.
Every day they steer their boats to the mouth of the harbor and then out to the open sea to catch FISH. What makes them so special? Instead of heading out alone in different directions, they form a circle and drop their anchors and cast out their nets. Each one invests in each other to catch these fish.  We share our expertise, experience and sometimes materials. Remember, we have some 22 people that are loyal and dedicated to each other to help each other with a big catch. But, if individuals only state, “I have not gotten a referral or minimally received referrals, then that particular person has not enlisted in the Fleet.” By being focused on just themselves, they are not focused on each other. The only way a group can be successful is to look to each other to give.  If you are looking to the group to get your referrals like an Amway or Juice Plus person would instead in the rolodex that all of us have, then you will most likely never or seldom ever receive referrals.
They all have fish finders and the latest equipment aboard and let EVERYONE know where the FISH are.
And when the Captains are back at the dock, they're ALWAYS SHARING THEIR IDEAS, BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS AND HELPING EACH OTHER.

It is not every day that all of them will come back with a boat load of FISH. What really matters is that by working together, ALL the Captains are happy to get their fair share.
The group’s main focus is the following:
·         Getting to know each other including what they do, what makes them different, how they began, their experience, signs on referring them business and their hobbies.
·         Sharing best practices of marketing, business strategies, information on their industry, pitfalls of their industry, etc. If the person has written a column with regards to their industry for example, maybe that person will share their book or written material with the group. Remember, if this is a typical networking group, then the group will eventually fall apart, in other words go down with their ship.  Invest in each other is like investing time in yourself.
·         Look for other ship captains to bring to the group to expand it.
·         A referral or example of investing in the group is having one on ones periodically, introducing the person to clients or circles of influence and by bringing in a guest.
·         Using the group for advice such as reviewing a business plan, questions on marketing and advertising your business. Looking for expertise in each other.

Avenue Productions- Are They a Real Agency?

Avenue Productions- Are They a Real Agency?

Elina Sol, a model that I work with regularly recently visited Avenue Productions for her children. Avenue Productions attempted to sign Elina to the agency. Avenue Productions made claims that they get all types of work for their models. Personally, I have known some 46 models that have visited Avenue Productions and each of them never received work. Instead, they were sold photography and comp card services. This is known as a photography mill. They claim that their photographer is good and the models can attain work because of these photos.

Many years ago, I brought three models to CED (Cunningham Escott & Dipene), a NY based commercial print agency. The agency is now called CESD (Cunningham Escott Slevin & Dougherty). This was in the 80s and I was not an accomplished photographer at that time. They did not try to sell the models on photography and comp card services. Instead, they took the comp cards that I did and stickered the comp cards with their comp cards.

Elina Sol is only one of 3 models that I currently work with in South Florida. Elina has been paid for a number of photographic art pieces. My works are hanging in the Smithsonian, 4 United States Presidential Libraries, and my work has been featured on NBC News, WXEL Public TV, cover of the Sun Sentinel, Miami Herald, Indian Life and Style Magazine in India, the United Kingdom, and United States, Chicago Tribune, Photographic Society of America Journal, Nashua Telegraph, Framingham News, Lowell Sun, NH Magazine, the Concord Monitor, The Broadcaster, The Rangefinder Magazine, Via Magazine, Boca Raton News, Our Town News, The Coral Springs Forum, Parklander Magazine cover, Afrocentric News, Wiscasset News in Maine, Southbay News in NY, and a variety of other magazines. These are not published articles, they are featured articles. In other words, articles featuring my photographic art works.

Avenue Productions was making claims that their photographer is better. Of course, the photographer would charge some $600. Every model I have sent agencies to have never paid a dime to any agency. I question whether Avenue Productions is a legitimate agency based on the above information. I have also approached Avenue in the past in hiring some of their models. They literally did not know how to respond to this. Since I also refer models to agencies that have work to give models, if Avenue Productions was real, I would be considered a source of quality models.

Avenue Productions does not have headsheets, or an agency book such as Ford, Elite, Zoli, Click, Next Models, etc. This blog will be auto feed to all of the offices through Marc Gagnon Inc. throughout the country including the offices: Marc Gagnon Inc. - NH, Marc Gagnon Inc. - MA, Marc Gagnon Inc. - NYC, Marc Gagnon Inc. - Chicago, Marc Gagnon Inc. - Atlanta, Marc Gagnon Inc. - Charleston, Marc Gagnon Inc. - San Francisco, and Marc Gagnon Inc. - Florida. Marc Gagnon Inc. simply markets the photographic artwork to the public and private collectors. Some of the artwork is marketed on merchandise.

Our Town News Features the Work of Marc Gagnon

Marc Gagnon was featured in Our Town News located in Coral Springs regarding his art collages; specifically his American Revolution themes. Daniel Webster collage

Daniel Webster (January 18, 1782 – October 24, 1852) was a leading American statesman and senator from Massachusetts during the period leading up to the Civil War. He first rose to regional prominence through his defense of New England shipping interests. Webster's increasingly nationalistic views, and
his effectiveness as a speaker, made him one of the most famous orators and influential Whig leaders of the Second Party System. He was one of the nation's most prominent conservatives, leading opposition to Democrat Andrew Jackson and the Democratic Party. Daniel Webster is considered a local hero in New Hampshire. Mr. Webster lived in a couple of different neighborhoods one of which can still be viewed today at Stawberry Bank in Portsmouth, NH. It was said that Daniel Webster defended a man accused of murder in one of his original cases. He knew he was guilty. He was thankful that the man lost. He was a person who looked for the truth. Coincidentally, Marc Gagnon Inc.'s mailing address of its headquarters is located on Daniel Webster Highway in Nashua, NH.

What is hard to fathom that very few people in Florida have ever heard of Daniel Webster. It is a cultural difference from New England to Florida.

Perfect Game Sports Grill in Coral Springs, the worst place Ive seen

Perfect Game Sports Grill in Coral Springs, the worst place Ive seen

Posted 08:56 PM June 09, 2012
Tonight I accompanied friends to the Perfect Game Sports Grill in Coral Springs to watch the Heat game. Although the The game was great, the service is the worst I have ever seen. It took some 35 minutes before anyone came over to us. Some of my friends asked for mugs which we had to ask three times for. We were never served napkins.  My friend had to get off his chair and walk over to the bar to take a stack of bar napkins for the group. He actually took them himself. Additionally, the waitress, who was Vanessa, never brought utensils and they were asked for three times.

We totally recommend that no one goes there. I travel from Maine to Florida and it is basically the worst place for service I have ever experienced. In addition, the waitress did not care. The barmaid said she was sending over the manager and he never showed up. Obviously, he did not care.

The place is at 10365 Royal Palm Blvd, Coral Springs, Florida

Jacques Wiesel on Social Media

SOCIAL MEDIA…A 21ST CENTURY PANACEA?
Jacques Wiesel

Because of Facebook, Google, texting, MySpace and Twitter, faux-connections are replacing the “human” element in most personal relationships. Using the latest research, which includes but is not limited to the New York Times, AARP, Forbes.com, The Atlantic, TIME, as well as the Washington Post and The Week one learns that the staggering statistics reinforce the fact that “emotional loneliness” is more devastating to our youth than are the artificial benefits of socializing via the media.

Using social media we can transform ourselves temporarily into the persons WE WOULD LIKE TO BE without fear of being recognized by all those so-called newly found friends, a word which has been completely distilled as well as abused by continued exposure. Hiding behind our persona we feel safe from unwanted criticism. I know people who count these “friends” as a measure of personal ego satisfaction; being a bit old-fashioned I am happy to count a dozen true friends, while relegating the hundreds of “others” to my files marked acquaintances, whether of a personal or business nature.

My main concern is what this is doing to our children. Being “liked” by complete strangers is as useful to their inner self and personal growth as loading up their scooters or bicycles for a trip to the moon, i.e. totally delusional. According to a recent Good Housekeeping report (March) medical studies show that the more hours spent watching TV or on the computer the weaker their emotional bonds with their parents. Is it any wonder that a National Teachers Magazine had as its headline:
AMERICA’S DIRTY LITTLE SECRET:
WE DON’T REALLY LOVE OUR CHILDREN!
Need proof? Last year 3.3 million REPORTED cases of child abuse, adding up to
65 million survivors of C.A. who will eventually implode (via illness) or explode through violent acts against society. (Source: US Govt. Administration for Children)

The WSJ reports that young teens will text messages back and forth 300 times per day and the American Journal of Epidemiology notes that most adolescents average 28 hours per week using computers and watching TV. A majority of teens and tweens (adolescents between 8-12) own tablets, laptops, iPods, and smart-phones and use them 24-7. When the Kaiser Family Foundation concluded its report it stated that the average American ages 8-18 spends 7 HOURS PER DAY watching a screen of sorts.

Parents are replacing their love with electronic gadgets, mostly without supervising their content. I went to my grandchild Logan’s 11th birthday party at the Laser Quest. I watched six year olds manning the “killing electronic guns” and rejoicing at their scores. There were 8 killing stations. At age seven I was running for my life with my brother and parents as the Nazis bombed Brussels, Belgium. What exactly are we teaching our children today?

Headlines like “DEPRESSION IN TEENS OFTEN RETURNS”…“FACEBOOK:
Are Social Media Making us lonely?”…or ”Teach Your Teen to Say HELLO!” grace most major media outlets. When I first came to the United States in the middle of WW2 we “loved people and used things”. These days the opposite if true, i.e. “we love things and use people!”. The phrase “I love my toys, car, home, shoes, French fries, the Dolphins etc…has replaced the simple, truly emotional “I LOVE YOU!” which when said with proper eye contact becomes a bond of strength between the sender and the receiver, or parent and child. Parents need to replace screen-time with personal time, consistently. Love for things must be transferred back to love for people. I love my dozen or so friends, and I like the rest of the people I know.

The word educare means to draw forth from within, not what we mistakenly call education, which shovels truckloads of useless data into minds eager to be led, not lectured to “because I said so!”. A family usually consists of 1-2 parents and a child/children. Interference between parent and child via electronics results in weak family ties, as well as future weak relationships they develop as teenagers and eventually as  adults. For the first time in US history divorces occurred more times than marriages.
But then “Que sais je?” …”what do I know?”
